Lupe Hernandez

Artist Bio

Lupe Hernandez is a Texas artist and native of the Rio Grande Region. Hernandez who also goes by the name MrThreeD, specializes on three-dimensional work, Cubism, Graffiti and Calligraphy as well as works with large scale painting, portraiture and airbrush art. His compositions or themes range from religious art, figurative elements and calligraphy. Hernandez also creates detailed arrangements that narrate Mexican cultural story boards that resonate timeless expressions of times gone by. His current works include a series of nostalgic toys, native animals and plants, a series of dessert pastel drawings and graffiti landscapes. He pledges his support for the arts by participating in group exhibitions throughout Texas.

Mr. Hernandez is also an art instructor at Hinovations Art Gallery that follows an art style theme during the school year that enable students to thoroughly learn important points and leading artists of the time. They learn about Impressionism, which is the style of mixing colors on the canvas allowing for blur effects and energetic compositions. They also learn to shade with pencils and use value scales as light shadow.

Hernandez who from time to time, suffers from anxiety turns to art to release pressure and stress. “Art is my medication and meditation”, says Hernandez. “Whenever I feel overwhelmed, I begin to paint an image in my mind. I think of the objects, the shapes and the colors they can be and soon enough my heart relaxes and am able to breath normal”. Art is a conduct to express feelings and to create a joyful surrounding. He definitely paves a revered life for himself in the Rio Grande Valley.

Artist Statement

One aspect of the work I am currently focused on deals with nostalgia and remembrance and the automated feelings that surge when a person looks at a childhood toy. The Recapture exhibit is designed to stimulate moods and mindsets. The viewer can experience individual perspectives of joy, love, anger, helplessness, optimism and more. Symbolism is the main driving force in my art, as well as geometric abstraction. I believe the composition meets color and energy in fractures or mini pieces to communicate my vision.

Jesus Toro Martinez

Artist Bio

A native Texan, and currently works out of his studio at Lone Star Art Space, An Artist Incubation Space for Visual Artist. Toro received his B.F.A. from the San Antonio Art Institute and an M.F.A. from Ravenhurst University in Netherlands. He has participated in group art exhibits at The Blue Star Contemporary Arts Museum, San Antonio, Texas, The Museum of Modern Art, Tamprre, Finland, Galleria Amores in Mexico City, MexicArte Museum, Austin, Texas. Toro has exhibited solo at the Museum of the West Oslo, Norway and at the Finland National Academy of Art in Helsinki, Finland. In 2015 Toro was part of the Jerusalem Bi-

Annual. He also is part of the permanent collection of the University of Texas in San Antonio and the Latino Art Museum at the Poma Art Colony, Pomona California as well at the Holly Name of Mary Catholic Church, San Dimas, California. Today his work is collected by individuals nationally and internationally.

Artist Statement

Jesus Toro Martinez explores the expressive physical potential techniques in abstract expression. He begins by building up a thick layer of black tar mixed with self-made pigment over gessoed canvas. Using a variety of tools as well as his physicality to control the line weight, he then pulls the pigment away from the surface, leaving behind pure markings. The fine lines move fluidly throughout the canvas, creating negative space and a highly textual composition.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Analy Diego

Artist Bio

A Texas native, Analy Diego was introduced into the art worked at a young age by her grandfather, a skilled caricaturist. She started painting with watercolor and oils at the age of six and continues doing it until this day. Analy received a B.S. in Interior Design, graduating Magna Cum Laude honors, as well as a Masters in Architecture from the University of Texas at San Antonio. While in school, she developed acute attention to form and space associated with architecture, this refined her visual and analytic skills, thus strengthening her focus on the ties between art and design.

As an Architecture and Design instructor, Analy continues to expand her artistic knowledge through her teaching methods. She draws inspiration from different color theorists and architects, such as Josef Albers, Charles and Ray Eames and Frank Lloyd Wright. However, references to contemporary subjects and current social issues frequently appear in her work. Her art has grown to include a wide variety of styles and mediums, ranging from ink drawings to graphic illustrations.

Analy’s passion is to work on projects which will reflect her strong artistic point of view and allow people to appreciate normal day subjects that are easily overlooked today. Analy currently lives and works in San Antonio, Texas.

Analy Diego is currently represented by Art Legacy.

Jorge Puron

Artist Bio

Jorge Puron (b.1969 Piedras Negras, Mexico) is self-informed painter who lives and works in San Antonio, Texas. His art is influenced by a life lived on both sides of exhibitions, his work has been shown at the Museum of Geometric and MADI Art in Dallas, Texas; El Paso Museum of Art in El Paso, Texas; Museo Reyes Meza in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico; Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, among others. In 2002, he co-founded Jardin del Arte a project to promote artists in San Miguel de Allende, and in 2010, he was appointed Advisor to the Municipal Council of Culture in the border city of Piedras Negras, Mexico. In 2013, Puron received the Erick Schaudies Memorial Award at K Space Contemporary in Corpus Christi, Texas, the top prize for Third Coast National juried exhibition. A consistent collaborator with other US-Mexico border artists, his work was currently featured in documented exhibits: Un Provincial & Borderwave in 2016 and Practical Acts of Perception in 2017. His work is part of private and corporate collections in North America and Europe. He has also worked in cinema as an Art Director and Set Designer for independent short and full-length films. Most recently, his work was selected for the juried Biennial: Origins in Geometric Art. (2017)

Artist Statement

My work is founded upon hard-edged forms an is essentially abstract in nature. Nevertheless, these abstractions are deeply informed by the natural landscape. As I move through the landscape I feel and explore the concept of special relationships and investigate multiple perspectives. My work confronts perception by subjecting form, and the practice by which it is painted, to severe limitations. The resulting, reductive images both suggest and resist the need for detail and narrative myth by denying the viewer clear symbolic references. The effect is blunt and aesthetically confrontational. It negates conventions about form and art-historical references while hinting to a system of order hovering just beyond perception. A system loaded with metaphoric content that captures the essence of place, time and emotion.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Eduardo Rodriguez Calzado

Artist Bio

Eduardo Rodriguez Calzado is a visual artist of Mexican origin who, with his brilliant ability and the creative energy of his brush strokes, inevitably transforms us into a pictorial world of fascinating chromatic vibrations. In it, it seems each of the small units of squares and contours that make up the composition where a representation of hundreds of pixels of a circuit that together emit multiple melodies, interlaced by an artistic force in each canvas, that delight us through the powerful movement of lines and effervescent colors, stimulating our imagination and shaking our conscience.

In each work Rodriguez Calzado leads us through a visual whirlwind creating a variety of planes, at first through two-dimensional figures that when overlapped give life to a surprising third dimension. The harmonious movement of these planes and fragmentation of color create complex forms and perspectives, swaying to the rhythm of the melodies, inviting us to explore the magic of the paintings.

Artist Statement

My goal is that whoever sees my paintings takes something away from them, even if it’s just the spark of a memory or a feeling. And that is what great art does, it speaks to you through your emotions and changes you and the way you think and feel. I have been a painter most of my life and hope that I will continue working on my craft for many years, I love what I do, I love to paint and the process of using my imagination to create fantastical imagery.
